R.G Mine Probe

The R.G. Mine Probe was built with a simple priority in mind... It needs to work when it matters and it needs to be where you can reach it without thinking. This is a compact and purpose driven tool that favors performance and access over appearance. It may not look refined but in real world use it performs as well as or better than many longer probes currently on the market. The shorter length is intentional so it rides comfortably on a plate carrier or kit without snagging gear or getting buried in a pouch.

The handle is 3D printed from PLA and designed by an end user. Knurled gripping surfaces reduce hand fatigue and improve control during repeated probing. The rear of the handle uses beveled surfaces so the probe can glide out of the hand when proper technique is used instead of locking your grip and burning out your forearm. Used correctly this design remains highly effective despite its compact size. The printing on this handle is not great, specifically where the brand name is. The next model will not be embossed, but will be laser etched onto the item.

In the interest of full transparency the handle material is PLA and it does have limitations. PLA begins to soften around 60 to 65 degrees Celsius or 140 to 149 degrees Fahrenheit. Prolonged exposure to temperatures above roughly 50 to 55 degrees Celsius or 122 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit such as being left inside a hot vehicle or in direct sunlight may cause warping or deformation. This version is priced accordingly. A future version with a stronger and more heat resistant handle material will be offered at a higher price.

The probe shaft is constructed from fiberglass reinforced plastic. It is non conductive and holds up well in harsh environments and temperature extremes. The working length of the probe is 22 cm / 8.66 inches. The overall length including the handle is 27.5 cm / 10.8 inches.

This shorter than average configuration is deliberate. A mine probe is only useful if you can get to it quickly and carry it without it becoming a liability. This will be the only model offered at this price point. With each purchase you may request an additional handle be included. The probe shaft is permanently secured into the handle using JB Weld to ensure a strong and reliable bond. If needed to replace, you can send it back and I will replace the handle with the nicer model once manufacturing is completed.
